The 2010 Okinawa – Tokai Ocean race. 沖縄-東海ヨットレース 2010.
Cocorin. Elliot 16 Meter Schooner.
It is great to see this Japan based Category 3 ocean race added back on the Sailing Japan off shore racing calendar. It has been too long since we last saw the race and we very much hope it stays on the calendar as a permanent event. I will have the pleasure of racing this event aboard the 16 meter Elliot schooner rigged Cocorin owned. I was ever so happy to receive my invitation to race from Cocorin’s owner Itaru Matsunaga.
The race basics are that it begins at Ginowan Harbor Marina off Ginowan, Okinawa Prefecture and the finish line is set just off Laguna Gamagori, Aichi Prefecture. Total race distance is about 720 Nautical Miles or 1,333 kilometers. Pre Inspections will take place on the 26th and 27th April at Ginowan Marina and the actual race The start date and time are April 29, 2010 12:00.
For those wishing to follow the race progress it is great to see that the race organizers have contracted OC Tracker to fit Iridium boat trackers to each boat. You may see the plots sent home by these trackers live via the Internet at on this race follow home page.
