There is no doubt that Sportsboats must be included within that group leading the way in sail boat expansion across the world today. Steve Thompson’s Longtze 680 is a great part of this expansion. It is sailed all over the world today and at the recent Europe Cup it was a massive whose who of yacht racing on the line for the 680 champions ship and sponsors included the names of companies such as Lufhanse.

Here in Japan the world of Sports Boats is just getting going. In fact as I write this article there are less than four Sports Boats in the country. I am absolutely sure that this will soon change as more and more Japanese sailors realize how much fun they can have for a very small price tag.
Sports are massive in the power department. It is not unusual to see 24 feet Sport’s boats boasting sail areas larger than their larger 30 feet fixed keel cousins. Do remember that although sports boats are fixed keel boats they are very light and are able to be carried on trailers. As a common trait, they all have retractable keels.
