June 28th was a fantastic if not a little too hot Sunday. The IRC fleet gathered at Shin Nishinomiya’s Kansai Yacht Club or KYC as it’s known and sailing Japan meant joining this hot competition for 3 races.
We started with the skippers meeting at 9:20 am as sailed all day. Then we hit our boats. The competition was stiff and the sailing very competitive. I was lucky enough to be invited to join the crew of a Vite 31 Tsuboi design yacht named Black pearl. This boat is not to be confused with it’s little sister the J24 I sailed recently. This Black Pearl is a lovely boat in all ways. She points up high, is comfortable with all the trimmers need where they should be and takes off down wind nicely.
I was asked to act as “main sheet” and so was a bit busy to actually get much video however he is what I did mange to squeeze in.
Great day and great people to sail with and against. I will be out there with these IRC guys from Kansai Yacht Club as often as I can.
