The Power of The Volunteer.

March 16, 2014 by Mark Smith Japan

RNLI FlagThe Royal National Lifeboat Institution RNLI celebrates it’s 190th Birthday this month. The RNLI is a volunteer organisation. RNLI volunteers do a lot of training in all weather conditions. They have many dramatic rescues but not all are dramatic. Some are quite calm but still very important.

In this video we see a family that has been caught by a strong incoming tide. The RNLI went out to rescue them. We can hear the little girl crying and initially refusing the offered lifejacket. However with care and experience the RNLI volunteers soon have all passengers wearing lifejackets and being taken to safety.

If we look at some of the photos of equipment owned by the RNLI we can see millions of pounds of boats and equipment. This is the power of the volunteer. The British public care a lot about marine rescue. The care and share their money.
