To Sail Japan as a foreigner

March 9, 2014 by Mark Smith Japan

I do love sailing Japan. I have been living in Japan since 1988 and have to say as much as I can find things wrong with the place I love the country.  One question that is often asked between foreigners (non Japanese ) living in Japan is, “when are you going home?” my answer is always the same. “I am home”

For those of you who decide to join me sports sailing the seas of Japan you will find, for the most, part an atmosphere of friendly support. I have sailed to many marinas and fishing towns in Japan and to date have never had a bad experience.

The winds can be challenging for cruisers and yacht racers alike but to me that just adds to the flavor. As you sail Japan you will find many a beautiful location and some very exciting winds. I have made a few videos of my sailing and here is one.  Enjoy.
