The Clipper Round World Ordinary People doing Extraordinary Things.
You don’t need sailing or yacht racing experience. You may not have ever even been on board a yacht before, you are still welcome to apply for this race. The Clipper Race states it is there to do extraordinary things with ordinary people. That sounds good to me. Clipper Ventures Plc, is the organiser and as at time of writing they have completed 9 Clipper Round the world races and offered the adventure of a lifetime to more than 3,000 people. Bakers, Lawyers, Office Staff and Public Servants have all become sailors. Chairman of Clipper Ventures Plc, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston is no stranger to around the world racing. He has always been close to ocean racing, set the world record for solo and non-stop circumnavigation in 1968-69 and continues to promote the sport of ocean racing today. With Sir Robin at the helm the Clipper Yacht Race is bound to get better every time it goes out to sea. The Yachts set out to sea from London and then follow a course which offers plenty of adventure whilst avoiding the harshest southern oceans for reasons of safety. The yachts come into land 16 times and those who are unable to sail the entire race are able to select the portion of the race that best suits their own life. You may see the course here. The 12 yachts used in the race are all supplied by Clipper Ventures Plc. The fleet has updated regularly and the yachts are all state of the art, quick and safe. When we see them all lined up at harbour they are truly a sight of beauty. It is true that the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is the adventure of a lifetime. However to me the one point that always impresses me whenever I look at photos from the race is the happiness in the faces of the racers. Can you imagine? One day you are sitting at your desk having never sailed before in your life and the next day you are sailing across the ocean in one of the best yachts in the world. Come on Japan, Let’s Join.
