My Good Friend Bill has helped many English speakers learn to sail here in Japan. He offers to help people train to obtain sailing skills and the Japanese Boat license. His school operates in English. Here are a couple of announcements he has asked us to keep in mind.
October 16 will be the next date for the English version of the Japan Small Boat Permit exam. This will be the last such exam for 2014. The exam sites are Tokyo, Osaka, and Okinawa. If you want to sit for either the 1 Kyu or the 2 Kyu, you should start the application process soon. For full details go to: www.japansmallboatlicense.
The Juku at Bill’s Little informal Sailboat School offers study materials for the 2 Kyu exam. These materials, developed over the past 10 years, are the most extensive and least expensive available. Information available on the web site noted above.Friends of Mark special! The Juku have been working on 1 Kyu materials. To date the Juku has study materials for 11 of the 14 questions on the 1 Kyu exam.
The Juku will offer these materials free of charge to the first five skippers (2 Kyu) to apply. Send your request to:cloud9bliss@gmail.com. The Juku will ask you to provide some feedback on your experience.
